Arthur E. and Cleora Flegel Living Legacy
Traditionally,
when someone leaves
a legacy to an
association or
group, the project
is implemented only
after the person’s
death. In contrast,
a Living Legacy
allows for the
legacy to be put
into action during
the individual’s
life. Arthur Flegel
has selected and
helped develop a
Living Legacy that
includes a matching
grant for a project
that embodies his
life and
accomplishments.
Together with his
family and friends,
he will be able to
see the fruits of
his generosity now
and, in addition,
his legacy will live
on.
Arthur has
contributed $25,000
in unrestricted
funds to begin the
Arthur E. and Cleora
Flegel Living
Legacy. His friends
and family and AHSGR
colleagues now have
an opportunity to
recognize Arthur and
Cleora Flegel and
preserve our German
Russian heritage by
contributing to the
Living Legacy Fund.
Once $25,000 has
been contributed,
Art will add another
$25,000 to be
matched so that the
Legacy Fund will
have $100,000 to
continue the mission
of AHSGR.
Arthur E. Flegel
stands as a giant
among men, wise
beyond his
ninety-four years.
His wisdom was
accumulated from
life, schooling,
military service,
business, marriage,
travel, and
research. He
dedicated his spare
time to extensive
research, writing
and documenting 18th
and early 19th
century family
surnames and
historical events
pertaining to the
settlement of large
populations of
Germans in the
Russian Empire.
Summing up the
achievements of
Arthur Flegel is
a formidable
task. Many
people consider
it a privilege
to know him,
feel fortunate
to have
experienced his
vast amount of
knowledge, have
benefited from
his extensive
genealogical
research
endeavors, and
deeply
appreciate his
many
contributions to
AHSGR and to our
unique American
culture.
