Small Talk- Using the Stumpp Book to Facilitate Your Research

I will review the different editions of the book Karl Stumpp, The Emigration from Germany to Russia in the Years 1763 to 1862. Point out the different information in each section and then show a couple of examples from the Digital edition and what next steps you might use with that information.
Susan Hopp Nakaji earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Puget Sound. Her father’s parents were German-Russians, on his mother’s side, the Rauter family was from the village of Kulm, Bessarabia, South Russia and his father’s side, the Hopp family emigrated from Frank, in the Volga region of Russia. She developed an early interest in history and genealogy after reading, Roots, by Alex Haley and watching the mini-series on TV. Richard “Dick” Scheuerman, a history teacher in her school district, helped her to connect with her German Russian heritage. Following
her marriage and a move to California, her involvement expanded when she became involved with the Golden Gate Chapter of AHSGR, here she spent many hours working with Arthur Flegel, learning about Bessarabia and the Caucasus areas of Russia. After the Caspar convention in 2009, she was recruited by Doris Evans to be the Village Coordinator for the village of Hussenbach, in the Volga region. In 2015 she was elected to the AHSGR board of directors and was the President of the California District Council when they planned the 2016 convention in Concord, CA. Since then she has served on the Convention Management, Folklore, Editorial & Publications and Genealogical Research committees. She was the editor of the Jugend Zeitung, the AHSGR youth magazine, for its 16 issue run.
Sue is a retired Library/Media Technician and enjoys reading and quilting, when she is not searching for those illusive ancestors. She and her husband now live in Nevada and enjoy visiting their three daughters and two grandchildren.
