Wedding Dress
The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia has acquired some new items for our collections. One new acquisition is a wedding dress belonging to Barbara (Becker) Bertz. She married Andrew Beltz on February 15, 1905, in Kukkus, Russia. They immigrated to the US on March 14, 1907, and settled in Lincoln’s North Bottoms. The handmade, white jacquard dress was likely first worn by Barbara’s mother Maria Christina (Printz) Becker when she married Johannes “John” Becker in the 1870s also in Kukkus. AHSGR wants to thank Cheryl Whitehall of Lincoln, Nebraska for donating this beautiful piece of German Russian history.
Shirt & menu
Our other acquisition is from more recent German Russian history. This T-shirt and menu are from The Mixing Bowl Cafe in Gering, NE. Owner and Chef Jamie Meisner is a German-Russian and an AHSGR member. German Russian cuisine is a staple in her kitchen, offering German Night specials such as Kartofel & Glace Soup and Dinna Kuga.
