JOB SUMMARY

Provides research assistance and services to members and patrons of the AHSGR Library/Archive.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Manages and coordinates research/genealogy requests received via email, online form, phone, or in-person visits, and tracks requests from initiation to delivery. Provides information to Office Administrator for payment of appropriate fees.

· Provides research assistance and support services relating to the AHSGR collections and uses network of AHSGR subject matter experts to support timely responses.

· Undertakes fee-based research for Library/Archive patrons.

· Sets appointments for on-site research visits and assists researchers in locating materials.

· Provides instructions on the use of the facilities, collections, and equipment.

· Explains and enforces Library/Archive policies and procedures.

· Shelves and rehouses Library/Archive materials. Some light cataloging, processes archival collections under the supervision of the Archivist, assist with collection digitization efforts following established procedures.

· Assists with Inter-Library Loans

· Participates in on-site and online programs relating to AHSGR’s collections and research services.

· Answers the telephone, greets visitors, and helps with store sales when needed.

· Provides logistical and organizational support during the annual convention (online and/or in- person)

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree, demonstrated experience providing research or reference services relating to genealogy or a specialized Library/Archive, and excellent customer service and communication skills.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

· Advanced knowledge of genealogical research services, resources, and technologies

· Personal interest in genealogical research

· Knowledge of, or interest in, Germans from Russia history

· Demonstrated ability to learn and work with varied technologies and systems

· Excellent organizational skills, experience prioritizing workflows, and attention to detail

· Proficient written and oral communication skills

· Adaptability and the ability to work positively and collaboratively with the public, researchers, and the staff team

POSITION CONDITIONS

· Full-time position, hours between Monday-Friday

· Occasional evening and weekend events/meetings

· Very occasional same day or overnight travel

SALARY AND BENEFITS

· $18 per hour

· Accruing PTO and retirement plan with employer match
