JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: AHSGR ARCHIVES & DIGITAL ASSET MANAGER
This temporary 2-year, full-time/non-exempt position oversees the management, preservation, and accessibility of AHSGR’s archival collections and digital assets. Reports to the Executive Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides research assistance and technical support for all library/archives patrons (internal and external).
- Oversees the management of the archives collection including acquisition, control, descriptive standards, maintenance and preservation activities, policy and plan development, assessment of furniture and equipment needs and collection management systems.
- Processes and prepares Archival Collections for digitization.
- Work with the Executive Director and Librarian on the implementation of AHSGR’s first digital asset management system.
- Works with the Executive Director to establish priorities and workflows for the acquisitions of born-digital resources and internal digitizations efforts.
- Define and manage digital asset metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies.
- Provide frontline system user/customer support and training.
- With the staff team, develop programs that further archives and organizational missions (in-person and online).
- Develop and direct asset workflow ingest, promoting automation when possible.
- Manage and monitor access and use of digital assets, ensuring brand consistency, compliance and copyright.
- Promote and optimize use of digital assets. Supervises volunteers and student interns in the archive.
- Analyze and report regularly on metrics that pertain to demographics of access, usage, and lifecycle of digital assets, including statistics on audience engagement.
- Builds relationships with other archives and organizations that further the programmatic mission of the organization.
- Works with staff to provide vision and oversight for visitor/member engagement, exhibition planning (online and onsite), and online content creation.
- Oversees security, access, and environment controls of the library/archives.
- Responsible for the disaster plans for the Heritage Center, allocating tasks for the staff. Oversee execution of plan in time of emergency. Order and maintain supplies for the plan.
- Answers the telephone, greets museum visitors, and helps give tours when needed.
- Provides logistical and organizational support during the annual convention (online and/or in-person).
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate possesses a bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Archives and Special Collections, Archival Studies, or certification in an equivalent field of study required. They should have demonstrated experience with both archival and digital assets management.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Experience as an Archival and Digital Asset Manager or similar role, with expert knowledge of archival methods, procedures, and media available for managing digital assets.
- Experience working with digital asset-related metadata, controlled vocabularies, digital rights, search, and web-publishing processes.
- Experience with Digital Asset Management software and its implementation.
- Ability to develop procedures and guidelines with a strong understanding of digital asset management principles and best practices.
- Knowledge of, or interest in, Germans from Russia history
- Demonstrated ability to learn and work with varied technologies and systems
- Excellent organizational skills, experience prioritizing workflows, and attention to detail
- Proficient written and oral communication skills
- Adaptability and the ability to work positively and collaboratively with the public, researchers, and the staff team
POSITION CONDITIONS
- Full-Time, temporary 2 year, on-site position
- Work hours Monday-Friday with some flexibility in schedule
- Occasional evening and weekend
- Occasional overnight travel
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- $18.00 per hour
