Deutsche Kolonien Auf Dem Weg Von St. Petersburg Nach Saratov Transportlisten Von 1766-1767
Note: This book is in Russian and German
The migration of tens of thousands of people from Germany and other states to Russia in the 1760s continues to be a focus of historians. The first colonists were invited by the manifestos of Empress Catherine II of December 4, 1762, and July 22, 1763. They arrived in Russia in the autumn of 1763, and their numbers subsequently increased. The migration reached its peak in 1766: within a few months, approximately 23,500 settlers arrived in Kronstadt from Lübeck and other port cities, about 70% of all those who responded to the Empress’s call. Most of the prospective colonists faced a long and difficult journey to the Volga, and only a few reached their settlements in 1766; the others had to spend the winter en route. This book contains the transport lists for Klebeck, Oldenburg, Leontyeva, Ditmar, and Shirokov.
